TIFFANY EXPERIMENTAL CABINET VASE, BLUE FAVRILE PINCH RIBBED SHOULDER VASE~~~

Description

For auction sale is a lovely blue iridescent vase made by Tiffany Studios, New York, NY. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it 4 1/2" tall and is 3 3/4" in diameter at the shoulder. The foot has a diameter of 2 1/4". The top of the vase has a small diameter at 1 13/16" outside measurement.
The vase has a beautiful Tiffany platinum Blue Favrile iridescent finish. It displays a squat tapered shape with a cylindrical neck. It has vertical ribbing starting at the bottom and rising to the top at a slight angle. In between each of the ribs at the shoulder are concave indents into the glass. They surround the entire shoulder or ledge of the vase and sit between these vertical ribs. The neck also has these ribs and is cylindrical in form.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. It has an added wager bottom that has a counter sunk polished pontil. The finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. The vase is signed on the bottom with an etched signature that reads "X89 L.C. Tiffany-Favrile" and the numbers "1067" which is scratched out and the number "1076". The "X" denotes this as an experimental piece. The correct number for this vase is 1076 which is the number of this particular piece blown in either year. This makes sense as the signer made a mistake with the end numbers which are reverse of each other. I believe the indents in the shoulder is what makes this an experimental piece by Tiffany. I have a black and white photo taken from an early Tiffany catalog that shows this form without the indents.
Tiffany experimental pieces are a worthy investment. Realize there are by far fewer versions of those shapes that exist. I believe this to be an early piece based on the signature. The number without a prefix says its very early, circa 1892-1894. Those of you who collect Tiffany Blue Favrile vases and want an excellent Experimental example need to look no further. This vase would be a wonderful addition to your collection.

ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.5% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.5%. This is an increase of 8.6% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.5% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
