platter bearing system for many Garrard changers. Replace lost balls, scratched thrust washers or simply upgrade the complete bearing for better performance.
The Garrard changers (LAB 80, Type A, A70, Zero 100, …) use a
multi point thrust bearing system
(as opposed to single point commonly used today) at the base of the rotating platter
made of a ball cage sandwiched by two hardened steel thrust washers. While this bearing design worked quite well back in the day the washers do get scratched after many years of use causing noticeable noise during playback. In addition the balls being loose within its cage eventually get lost during service. And even if the balls were replaced they will degrade over time due to the mating scratched surfaces. A solution to these problems is to implement a complete
self-lubricating and contained bearing system
that is very quiet and smooth running while being robust enough should the record stacking mode be used.
Combining this bearing kit with our
idler wheel
will improve two of the most influential mechanical noise sources and reduce low frequency rumble to its minimum

SPECIFICATIONS:
Balls with Cage:
High Precision G5 grade steel balls
for near perfect roundness and surface finish made specifically for AudioVault.
Bottom Thrust Washer:
Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS
2
) filled custom made thrust washer
with solid lubricant properties for extreme low friction and high wear resistance mating perfectly well with steel. Includes alignment groove for a smooth and quiet playback experience.
Top Delrin Thrust Washer: To be used if
low noise and no lubrication
is preferred at the cost of minimum wear. Typical usage:
“Audiophile” mode

Top Steel Thrust Washer: To be used if
low wear
is preferred at the cost of lubrication and minimum noise. Typical usage:
“Changer” mode
.
