The late, Mission Case Victor D was the precursor to the Victor V. It replaced the original Rococo Case Victor D in 1905 and is identical in most respects (except for name) to the Victor V, which was introduced in 1906 and was the company’s flagship outside horn oak phonograph until it was discontinued almost 20 years later.
This Victor D is in outstanding condition, and it's original throughout, with no replica or incorrect parts. It needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately.
Solid oak cabinet retains its original finish and it’s still smooth, with no issues. Victor data tag is clean, complete and legible. All of the Mission trim is original and undamaged. Original paper license is worn but still affixed to the underside of the baseboard.
Back-bracket enamel is clean and original, as are the decorations. All nickel plating is original.
Clean mechanism (recently lubricated), powerful triple-spring motor, clean turntable, clean original turntable felt, clean original crank. Victor Exhibition reproducer has a good needle bar and a good diaphragm, and it sounds great.
Original Victor Spear Tip oak horn is in excellent condition and has a crisp original Nipper decal and a clean original finish. The horn is still tightly seamed, with scattered minor marks and blemishes consistent with age and authenticity. The horn's patent data is legibly blind-stamped into the collar.
The phonograph runs well and sounds great.
I'll include with the phonograph an early, acoustically recorded 78RPM record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on ebay and elsewhere. Hundreds of early them show up on ebay on a weekly basis, and they typically sell just a few dollars each.
I'm one of ebay's best known, most highly regarded sellers of collector quality phonographs. I've been selling
and shipping them
for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by
me
, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
